San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust: Summer Internship

The San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust (SBMLT) is dedicated to the acquisition of forest open space and wildlife habitat on private lands and in-holdings within the San Bernardino National Forest in order to ensure lasting public benefit of the natural mountain environment.For more information about SBMLT, go to sbmlt.net. 

SBMLT is looking for a young adult who enjoys and appreciates nature to be SBMLT’s Trails Coordinator intern for the summer of 2023.  The Trails Coordinator will engage in trail management practices at SBMLT’s Arrowhead Ridge Preserve in Lake Arrowhead, CA. 

Job Activities:

-   Work with SBMLT biologist & GIS specialist surveying sensitive habitat, mapping Preserve and creating Trail Maps using ArcGIS suite.

-   Identify and eradicate non-native invasive species.

-   Learn to safely work with hand tools, such as McLeod, digging bar, Pulaski, etc…

-  Clean up trash and remove graffiti on the SBMLT preserves.

-  Community engagement, education about SBMLT and Trails.

-  Perform trail management tasks like slashing, fixing existing trails, installing signs, etc….

-        Other miscellaneous tasks related to trail management include but not limited to, updating the Trail Management Plan, statistics, presentations, and social media.

Who Qualifies?

-  College bound High school junior or senior with an interest in natural sciences.

-  College student, preferably with a major related to environmental science.

-  Able to lift 50lbs and do physical work on uneven terrain.

- Available to work 250 hours over the summer break.

- $5,000 college stipend.
